The McClendon-Price House, originally listed as 1600 Pearl before the street extended, was built around 1906 by Annie Watt McClendon and her husband, James Wooten McClendon, on land gifted by her father, W.T. Watt. The Prairie Style home with Spanish Revival details became a center for social and civic life, including hosting guests on Texas Governor’s inaugural night in 1907. The McClendons lived there until 1926, after which the house was successively occupied by prominent figures such as Supreme Court of Texas Justice Thomas B. Greenwood and Charles G. Krueger, and Dr. Henry Blaustone. In 1960, Edwin B. Price, former UT head football coach and Dean of Students, purchased the home with his wife Betty Love Rugeley, founder of the AHS Red Jackets.
